Retail Furniture Brand Deploys IoT Electronic Shelf-Labeling System

Retail Furniture Brand, a well-known international furniture chain, faced the challenge of centrally and securely managing tens of thousands of electronic shelf labels per store (up to 40,000) without overloading or altering its existing WLAN infrastructure. The retailer needed long battery life for labels, robust encryption, and a solution that integrated with current network controllers; Extreme Networks was engaged to provide the wireless infrastructure (AP‑8432 access points and VX controller cluster) while LNConsult and SES‑IMAGOTAG supplied the ESL components.

Extreme Networks, together with SES‑IMAGOTAG’s USB dongle (AGP2‑USB1‑A) and integrator LNConsult, enabled a low‑power IoT protocol that plugs into existing Extreme Networks APs to manage up to 10,000 labels per access point (range ~80 ft) with 128‑bit encryption and ~0.25 W power use. The combined solution let the Retail Furniture Brand centrally update prices across European locations at the push of a button, eliminate manual label changes, maintain existing network resources (no second WLAN), and realize measurable labor and operational savings while ensuring reliable, secure ESL management.
