A Extreme Networks Case Study
The School District of Palm Beach County, one of the largest U.S. districts with 185 schools and more than 177,000 students, faced a state mandate to shift K–12 instruction to digital textbooks and needed district‑wide, high‑performance Wi‑Fi, centralized management, security and scalability to support growing 1:1 device initiatives. Their legacy controller‑based network lacked 802.11n throughput and campus coverage, so the District selected Extreme Networks (using ExtremeCloud IQ and ExtremeWireless technologies) to deliver a comprehensive wireless solution.
Extreme Networks deployed a distributed Wi‑Fi architecture with over 13,000 access points (including AP121, AP330 and AP170 models), ExtremeCloud IQ private‑cloud NMS, and features such as Dynamic Airtime Scheduling and band steering. The solution delivers 100% campus coverage, supports about 125,000 devices, enabled a district diagnostic test to 100,000+ students with minimal issues, and allowed the District to add 25,000 laptops and mobile labs. Extreme Networks’ deployment increased throughput for HD audio/video, simplified centralized management, improved security and scalability, and produced a highly reliable, near‑zero failure network for teaching, testing and BYOD.
