A Extreme Networks Case Study
NJ TRANSIT, the state-owned transit system and the third-largest U.S. provider of bus, rail and light rail service, needed a purpose-built network to support always-on operations across a vast environment—covering thousands of stops, 270 sites, and roughly 11,000 employees—while enabling IP multicast CCTV, stronger security segmentation, and minimal maintenance windows. To meet these challenges, NJ TRANSIT partnered with Extreme Networks and selected Extreme Fabric Connect, ExtremeSwitching and Extreme Management Center as the core technologies.
Extreme Networks deployed a Fabric Connect–based, hyper-segmented network managed through Extreme Management Center, delivering resilient, secure transport for IP multicast surveillance and customer-facing services without disrupting operations. The solution now runs at 170 sites (scalable across the enterprise), supports NJ TRANSIT’s 11,000 users and 270 sites, improves uptime and operational simplicity, and enables adding services during normal hours—bolstering security and customer experience across the system.
