A Extreme Networks Case Study
Mid-West School District, serving more than 13,000 students across 19 locations, needed to replace an aging, outage-prone hub-and-spoke network with a resilient, high-capacity infrastructure able to support mission‑critical services (online curriculum, HVAC, security cameras, PARCC testing) and future 802.11ac wireless deployments. The district chose Extreme Networks and its solution components — including Extreme MLX Series Core Routers, Extreme VDX 6740 switches, and a Network Subscription financing option — to deliver the technical and financial flexibility required.
Extreme Networks implemented MLX core routers with Multi‑Chassis Trunking and VDX fabric switches in the data center, leveraging the district’s dark fiber to deploy multiple 10 Gbps links and 40 GbE interconnects while third‑party campus switches provided PoE+ to every port. The deployment produced a highly resilient, high‑capacity network that supported district‑wide wireless, powered cameras and access points via PoE+, completed the first year of PARCC testing with no downtime, and gave the district operational and financial flexibility through Extreme Networks’ Network Subscription.
