Preview of the Australian-Based Data Center and Cloud Service Provider Case Study

Massively Scalable Routers Protect Global Network Traffic Against DDoS Attacks

The Australian-Based Data Center and Cloud Service Provider, which transmits data to more than 1,600 peered networks and hosts hundreds of thousands of websites and cloud services, faced nonstop, large-scale DDoS attacks that threatened global availability. Seeking greater capacity and visibility than its prior Cisco platform could provide, the customer selected Extreme Networks and its Extreme MLXe Routers (with Extreme NetIron CER 2000 Series Routers as backup) to gain the scale and NetFlow visibility needed to control and route unwanted traffic.

Extreme Networks deployed MLXe Routers at the network edge in front of scrubbing systems, built scrubbing centers in Amsterdam, Singapore, Los Angeles, Sydney and Melbourne, and connected sites over an MPLS backbone. The Extreme Networks solution increased capacity to 700 gigabytes across the global infrastructure, delivers clean traffic with minimal latency, successfully mitigates hundreds of DDoS attacks daily (including assaults up to 90 Gbps), and supports continued 30% annual growth while enabling tiered protection services.
