A Extreme Networks Case Study
Louisiana College, a private liberal arts college with about 1,698 students and 497 faculty/staff spread across an 81‑acre campus and 31 buildings, faced the challenge of delivering a reliable, high‑capacity wireless network to support BYOD, balance bandwidth between classrooms and residence halls, provide secure access, and simplify management for a five‑person IT team. To address these needs the college selected Extreme Networks, leveraging products such as ExtremeSwitching (S/K and B/C series), ExtremeWireless/IdentiFi, NetSight (Extreme Control Center), Extreme NAC/Identity and Access Manager, and ExtremeConnect to replace its legacy HP infrastructure.
Extreme Networks deployed a centrally managed wired and wireless solution—high‑performance switches, IdentiFi APs and controllers, NetSight for unified management and NAC captive‑portal and port‑level authentication—enabling secure device onboarding, traffic prioritization and elimination of previous bottlenecks. The rollout delivered measurable benefits: higher‑speed, higher‑capacity Wi‑Fi; improved user experience and student satisfaction; centralized management for the IT staff; and increased visibility, control and security—supporting roughly 2,195 users across 31 buildings (about 710,000 sq ft) and boosting network speeds without having to expand backbone capacity.
