A Extreme Networks Case Study
Averitt Express, a 40‑year logistics and freight transportation provider serving customers in more than 100 countries, faced a critical wireless security and reliability problem after a network audit flagged use of weak WEP encryption and exposed the WLAN as a vulnerability. Needing stronger Wi‑Fi security, centralized cloud management, and near‑100% uptime, Averitt evaluated vendors and selected Extreme Networks—deploying ExtremeWireless access points and ExtremeCloud IQ (Online) to replace its autonomous, controller‑based WLAN.
Extreme Networks implemented a controller‑less wireless architecture with ExtremeWireless APs managed via ExtremeCloud IQ Online and using PPSK for per‑device keys. Averitt converted about 55 locations (a few hundred APs supporting roughly 600 wireless clients), eliminated controller single points of failure, and gained cloud‑based centralized management. The Extreme Networks solution delivered secure fast roaming, simplified administration, avoided the cost/complexity of backup controllers, and enabled Averitt to meet its network‑uptime goals so freight operations remain reliable and on time.
