A Extreme Networks Case Study
Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), a private, non‑profit university, needed a secure, interoperable Wi‑Fi upgrade to support a BYOD campus of over 3,000 students, faculty and staff across a 12‑building, 20‑acre campus. MSOE’s existing multi‑vendor wireless mix provided no traffic encryption, caused performance and security headaches, and had to be manageable by a single network administrator. MSOE selected Extreme Networks and its IdentiFi Wi‑Fi solution to meet requirements for encryption, interoperability and simplified management.
Extreme Networks deployed an integrated wired and wireless IdentiFi solution (3140 Series APs, 5110 controllers, Radar RF management, OneFabric Control Center with NetSight and K/S/C‑Series switches), adding encrypted traffic, port‑level policy controls to block unauthorized routers, and centralized visibility and control. The rollout—completed in just over a month—tripled wireless usage (from about 300–400 concurrent users to 1,200–1,500), improved speed and reliability, enabled secure access to class and student databases, and gave the lone network admin a single console for management; MSOE also found Extreme Networks’ solution more cost‑effective with strong local support.
