Hospital Transforms into a 2.0 Model with Wireless LAN and Mobility Solutions

Klinikum Darmstadt, a major teaching hospital in Hessen with over 2,200 staff and more than 37,000 in‑patients annually, needed to modernise its entire IT and communications landscape and roll out wireless access without disrupting day‑to‑day clinical operations. To meet strict data‑protection and performance requirements, the hospital chose Extreme Networks, leveraging products including the Extreme Networks S‑Series and C‑Series, wireless LAN access points and controller, Netsight and the Mobile IAM solution.

Extreme Networks implemented a hospital‑wide WLAN (about 550 high‑performance access points) and Mobile IAM as part of its OneFabric Control Center, using role‑based Network Access Control, flexible SSID topologies, load‑balancing and radio management. The deployment made secure, high‑performance wireless available across the campus, enabled bedside access to patient records, supported staff mobility and patient internet use, and improved workflow efficiency and satisfaction — all achieved without disrupting clinical routines, with Extreme Networks’ solution already proving successful in pilot phases.
