Gran Telescopio Canarias Launches High Performance, Reliable Network to Drive Astrophysical Research

Gran Telescopio Canarias, operator of the Gran Telescopio CANARIAS, needed increased network capacity, simplified infrastructure management and better Wi‑Fi to handle the massive volumes of astrophysical data and support new technologies. To meet those needs, Gran Telescopio Canarias partnered with Extreme Networks and selected ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeWireless (Wi‑Fi 6) and ExtremeCloud IQ to modernize its campus and observatory connectivity.

Extreme Networks deployed the switching, wireless and cloud management stack to deliver a robust, centralized network that supports huge data flows in real time. The upgrade provided more capacity for critical research applications, reliable delivery of high‑quality telescope data and images to researchers, improved operational productivity and user experience, and simplified management so staff can focus on science and future technology rollouts.
