Gila River Telecommunications Calls on Extreme Networks for Performance, Reliability, and Simplicity

Gila River Telecommunications, an Arizona service provider delivering phone, Internet and metro Ethernet to the Gila River Indian Community (3,600+ access lines), was rapidly outgrowing its OC‑48 core as customer demand surged. Seeking a 10 Gigabit Ethernet solution, Gila River Telecommunications selected Extreme Networks for its port density, multi‑ring/EAPS failover capability and competitive pricing.

Extreme Networks deployed redundant BlackDiamond 8800 switches in the core, Summit X450a switches (with four remote sites later upgraded to BlackDiamond 8800), Summit WM3000 WLAN controllers, Altitude access points, and Ridgeline management with SummitStack stacking. The deployment delivered 10 Gb capacity and EAPS‑protected rings with sub‑50 millisecond recovery, simplified network management that cuts support overhead, and the ability to provide 10 Gigabit handoffs and resilient point‑to‑point and point‑to‑multi‑point services to customers.
