Case Study: SUNY Potsdam achieves fully modernized Wi‑Fi and centralized network management with Extreme Networks

A Extreme Networks Case Study

Preview of the SUNY Potsdam Case Study

Fully Modernized Wi-Fi Network Attracts and Retains Students

SUNY Potsdam, a public college serving 4,000+ students across 26 buildings and a 900,000 sq ft campus, was operating on a 13‑year‑old network core with no redundancy, unsupported equipment, frequent outages and inadequate security—hindering e‑learning, cloud migration, BYOD/IoT and smart classroom initiatives. To modernize campus connectivity and standardize with its sister campus, SUNY Potsdam selected Extreme Networks and deployed ExtremeWireless, ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeControl, ExtremeManagement and ExtremeAnalytics.

Extreme Networks delivered a centralized, modern network and single management pane that one staff member can administer, increased bandwidth, expanded BYOD support and added 300 video camera drops to boost security. As a result, SUNY Potsdam eliminated rolling outages, gained granular network insight, prepared the campus for 7+ years of growth, enabled online programs and shared services with SUNY Canton, and realized clear operational and security improvements thanks to Extreme Networks.
