A Extreme Networks Case Study
Alamanda College, a K–9 school in Victoria opened in 2013 with about 700 students and 64 staff but only one IT person, needed a highly reliable, easy-to-manage network to support a proliferation of student devices (mainly iPads and MacBooks) and multiple virtual servers. To meet that challenge the school selected Extreme Networks, deploying products including BlackDiamond (8800/8810 series), ExtremeXOS, Summit X440/X460 switches and Wireless Access Points.
Extreme Networks, implemented via partner Unity Computing Services, installed a BlackDiamond 8810 core with Summit X460/X440 edge switches, fibre cabling and 10G redundant links plus WAPs, delivering a stable, secure backbone that supports nearly 700 devices, 50 IP nodes, 35 IP cameras and five multi‑platform virtual servers. The Extreme Networks solution (and ExtremeXOS management) made the network simple to configure and troubleshoot, enabled schoolwide access to online library, printing and email, and prompted Unity to roll Extreme out to 15 schools — measurable gains in reliability, scalability and manageability for Alamanda College.
