ExtremeWireless™ Solution Supports 1:1 Google Chromebook Initiative

Elmbrook Schools, a 10‑school district serving 8,000+ students, set out to implement a four‑year 1:1 computing initiative using Google Chromebooks (Lenovo X131 with management license) to drive personalized learning, online collaboration and greater student engagement. To meet needs for scalable, reliable wired and wireless connectivity, device management and BYOD support, the district selected Extreme Networks and its portfolio (ExtremeWireless, ExtremeSwitching and ExtremeControl) as the network infrastructure and access-control provider.

Extreme Networks deployed ExtremeWireless access points and controllers, ExtremeSwitching hardware and ExtremeControl management to support the Chromebook rollout, synchronize Active Directory with network and Google directories, and accommodate BYOD and KG–3 iPad classrooms. The infrastructure supported an initial pilot of 900 Chromebooks in 20 classrooms, scaling with 1,200 more devices planned and a goal to cover grades 4–12 by fall 2016; teachers report easier device management via the Google console, reliable anytime/anywhere access, increased student engagement and richer online collaboration—outcomes made possible by Extreme Networks’ solution.
