Extreme Networks Wired Solution Increases Bandwidth for Educational Apps while Reducing Costs

Massachusetts Maritime Academy, a four‑year state university on Cape Cod, needed to refresh a 7‑year‑old Cisco network to support growing bandwidth demands from ERP, eLearning, virtual desktops, video streaming and surveillance while cutting rising maintenance costs. With a networking IT staff of one, the Academy prioritized an easy‑to‑manage, cost‑effective wired infrastructure and selected Extreme Networks to address slow switch configurations and high operational overhead.

Extreme Networks deployed a wired solution centered on B‑Series stackable switches and NetSight network management, enabling centralized control and simpler switch configuration. The upgrade increased campus bandwidth from 100 MB/s to 1 GB/s, improved reliability for critical educational apps, reduced ongoing maintenance costs (backed by a limited lifetime warranty) and significantly lowered management time for the lone IT administrator—allowing support for more video streaming, classroom computing and future campus growth.
