Case Study: UA-IX (Ukraine's largest Internet Exchange) achieves 50x capacity increase with Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond X8

Extreme Networks streamlines upgrade at the UA-IX Internet Traffic Exchange Point

UA-IX, Ukraine's largest Internet exchange with more than 130 participants, faced rapidly growing traffic from video, social media and transactions that exceeded the capacity of its existing Extreme Networks-based fabric (built on Summit X650 switches). To preserve performance and provide future headroom, UA-IX selected Extreme Networks and its BlackDiamond X8 modular switch as the upgrade path.

Extreme Networks deployed BlackDiamond X8 chassis interconnected with 40GbE line cards, delivering up to 20 Tbps switching capacity and very high port density (line cards supporting up to 192×40Gb or 768×10Gb per chassis). The upgrade increased UA-IX’s capacity by more than 50×, enabled gradual scaling without replacing the core switch, and supports current traffic of about 141.5 Gbps in / 141.9 Gbps out (peaks ~205.9 Gbps in / 207.0 Gbps out).
