A Extreme Networks Case Study
Mid-West Healthcare Provider, one of the state’s largest integrated health systems (29 hospitals, 280 clinics, 24,000 employees), needed a scalable, standards-based network that would support PACS and EMR today and enable future technologies such as Unified Communications and cloud computing across distances greater than 100 miles. They engaged Extreme Networks to design a long-term solution, selecting Extreme MLXe core routers, Extreme VDX switches with VCS Fabric, and Extreme’s network monitoring capabilities to replace an outdated core and future-proof their infrastructure.
Extreme Networks upgraded the core at 19 key locations including two mission‑critical data centers, creating a single unified architecture that eliminated packet loss and dramatically improved throughput. The deployment enabled PACS image transfers of thousands of images across 200+ miles in under five seconds, supported a centralized EMR rollout and VM mobility, interoperated with existing Nortel/Cisco gear, and reduced capital expenses by $150,000; ongoing health and availability are maintained with Extreme’s Network Monitoring Service.
