Extreme Networks Data Center Solution Passes the Test with Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior

The Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior needed to consolidate and modernize the networks, data centers and server infrastructure for roughly 31,000 security and executive staff across eight federal states and two Vienna locations after a 2004 merger. Facing a move to Microsoft Hyper‑V virtualization and centralized iSCSI NAS, the Ministry required a high‑availability, high‑performance and easy‑to‑manage LAN core; after evaluating vendors it selected Extreme Networks to meet those requirements.

Extreme Networks delivered a redundant data center solution based on BlackDiamond 8810 cores and Summit (X450a/X480) top‑of‑rack switches, ExtremeXOS with EPICenter management, and Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS), and validated the design through Extreme Networks Professional Services testing. The deployment provided 10 Gigabit‑ready uplinks, sub‑50‑millisecond EAPS ring failover, simplified operations for a small IT staff, and a problem‑free pilot rollout—resulting in improved stability, continuous operation for critical services and easier day‑to‑day management thanks to Extreme Networks’ integrated platform.
