A Extreme Networks Case Study
Concord Hospital, a regional healthcare system serving roughly 500,000 patients and 5,000 staff across 30 locations, needed a highly available, secure and simple network to support its completely paperless environment, VDI rollout, growing IoT footprint and strict patient-data protections. After evaluating fabric-based options, Concord partnered with Extreme Networks and selected Extreme Fabric Connect along with ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeWireless and Identity Engines to address 24x7x365 uptime, network segmentation, simplified management and cost pressure.
Extreme Networks deployed an end-to-end fabric solution—cutting over about 100 closets, two data centers and ~400 VLANs in roughly four hours—and standardized on ERS 5900, VSP 8000/7200/4850 platforms and fabric-attached wireless APs. The Extreme Networks solution automated device attachment, dramatically simplified edge operations, enabled self-provisioning, and created highly segmented, secure networks. Measurable impacts include supporting 2–3,000 concurrent devices, consolidating management for three networking staff, reducing operating expenses roughly equivalent to one full-time resource, and freeing IT to focus on strategic projects.
