A Extreme Networks Case Study
East Grand Rapids Public Schools, a Michigan district serving about 3,000 students with roughly 4,500 network users and 3,000 devices, needed to upgrade a busy BYOD/1:1 learning network and add 300+ IP security cameras while gaining visibility into users, devices and applications. They selected Extreme Networks — deploying ExtremeWireless access points, ExtremeSwitching (S‑Series X450/X460/X430), ExtremeControl for identity and access, and ExtremeAnalytics for application analytics — to replace a constrained 10 Gb core and provide the required security and management capabilities.
Extreme Networks implemented a 40 Gb-capable infrastructure with integrated Palo Alto and iboss security, full PoE, and real-time application visibility via Extreme Application Analytics, enabling automated building controls (lights/HVAC/doors) and seamless BYOD authentication. The upgrade was smooth, enabled the camera rollout, delivered core visibility to troubleshoot and prioritize educational apps, and saved the district the equivalent of 1–2 full-time staff while meeting all project goals.
