A Extreme Networks Case Study
Winneconne Community School District (WCSD), which serves 1,648 K–12 students across three schools, needed a constantly accessible, easy-to-manage network to support a 1:1 Chromebook rollout and an expanding BYOD program (roughly 1,000 new devices) and to reliably run online Smarter Balanced testing. To meet those goals, WCSD selected Extreme Networks and its solutions (ExtremeWireless, ExtremeSwitching and ExtremeControl) to provide pervasive wired and wireless coverage, device authentication and centralized management.
Extreme Networks deployed 72 access points, two controllers, B- and C‑series switches and ExtremeControl management to enable automatic Chromebook connectivity, NAC-based authentication, and bandwidth/policy controls (including blocking high‑bandwidth sites during testing). The solution smoothed large‑scale Chromebook use, improved classroom collaboration and teacher adoption, and supported online testing while allowing WCSD to scale Internet capacity (upgraded from 25 Mbps to 100 Mbps with plans for 500 Mbps). WCSD also credited Extreme Networks’ GTAC support for helping make the BYOD rollout sustainable.
