Case Study: City of Pharr achieves 100% uptime and a scalable, redundant public-safety network with Extreme Networks

A Extreme Networks Case Study

Preview of the City of Pharr Case Study

City of Pharr Leads the Way for Other Cities with its Public Safety Initiatives and Enhancements

City of Pharr needed a rock-solid, easily scalable network to support a new state-of-the-art Public Safety Communications Building, consolidated 911 dispatch, and critical infrastructure including the busy Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. To ensure redundancy and simplify management across 22 facilities and 802 employees, the city chose Extreme Networks and its solutions (ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeRouting and Extreme Management Center) to replace a mixed-switch environment and connect facilities, data center and public-safety systems.

Extreme Networks implemented standardized switches (including Extreme Industrial switches on the bridge), fiber and wireless links across all 22 city sites, and centralized management to create redundant network paths and high availability. The result: 100% uptime, a unified network that supports 14 9-1-1 consoles (with growth capacity), 70 bridge cameras and gigabit library service, and the ability to host other agencies and scale to future projects — demonstrating measurable improvements in reliability and operational readiness.
