City of Milwaukee Optimize Critical Services with Agile and Resilient Network

The City of Milwaukee, which operates a city‑wide fiber backbone serving more than 100 buildings and 7,000 staff, needed to unify packet and circuit‑switched networks, reduce complexity and convergence times, increase resiliency, and simplify provisioning and management. After a competitive search the City selected Extreme Networks and deployed Extreme Fabric Connect along with the ExtremeAccess Platform 1400 Series to modernize and streamline its network.

Extreme Networks implemented a fabric‑based solution and compact ExtremeAccess 1400 units to deliver hyper‑segmented virtual networks for emergency services, simplified management of surveillance and traffic systems, and rapid on‑demand extensions (including COVID‑19 test sites). As a result, major incidents like fiber cuts no longer impact services, the IT team has expanded services without adding staff, the fabric now spans 500+ switches and over 700 traffic cabinets, and the City gains clear operational resilience and faster service provisioning thanks to Extreme Networks’ solution.
