Chesterfield County Public Schools Chooses Extreme WLAN

Chesterfield County Public Schools, a Virginia K‑12 district of 62 schools serving about 59,000 students, needed a centrally managed, reliable WLAN to handle a surge in BYOD and a statewide move to online testing. After a vendor bake-off they chose Extreme Networks and its Extreme WLAN portfolio (ExtremeWireless, ExtremeSwitching and ExtremeCloud IQ) for a controller‑less, scalable solution that met their ease‑of‑management and edge‑intelligence requirements.

Extreme Networks deployed an enterprise WLAN—initially more than 2,000 APs (AP121, AP350, AP170) managed via ExtremeCloud IQ, with a density upgrade planned to exceed 4,000 APs. The rollout removed redundant hardware controllers and licensing fees, simplified administration, supported over 31,000 connected devices with flawless Wi‑Fi during statewide online testing, improved classroom throughput through AP edge controls, and delivered measurable operational and performance gains across the district.
