Case Study: TasmaNet achieves an SDN‑powered Centre of Excellence and high‑capacity TasConnX network with Extreme Networks

A Extreme Networks Case Study

Preview of the TasmaNet Case Study

Centre of Excellence Powered by Extreme Networks to Enhance Tasmania's ICT Capabilities

TasmaNet, an Australian ICT provider, set out to create a Centre of Excellence to make Tasmania a hub for ICT R&D and to build a register of up to 150,000 participants for technology trials. To meet dynamic capacity demands for data centers, IaaS and cloud services and to ensure interoperability with third‑party systems, TasmaNet selected Extreme Networks and its SDN technology—including Extreme Networks SDN, ExtremeXOS and the XNV network virtualization application—as the foundation for the centre’s infrastructure.

Extreme Networks delivered a fabric‑based SDN solution that gives TasmaNet real‑time network control, virtualization and application customization. The deployment established a networking baseline for proof‑of‑concept testing, attracted regional R&D and partner trials, and supported an OpenFlow trial spanning five local data centers; it also underpins TasmaNet’s TasConnX to deliver uncontended 10Gbps+ capacity for uploads and downloads. Extreme Networks’ technology has thus enabled measurable increases in testing capability, high‑capacity content distribution and regional innovation.
