Broward County Public Schools Select Extreme Networks to Overhaul WLAN and Bring Connectivity to 300,000 Students

Broward County Public Schools, the sixth largest U.S. district serving over 225,000 students (plus 175,000 adult students) across 238 schools and 270+ locations, faced growing WLAN challenges: rising BYOD, 1:1 programs, large online assessments, and the need for simplified, reliable network management. To meet these demands the district selected Extreme Networks and evaluated its ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeCloud IQ and ExtremeWireless offerings as their new WLAN standard.

Extreme Networks deployed an on‑premise ExtremeCloud IQ-managed wireless solution, rolling out ExtremeWireless AP230 802.11ac access points (initially over 11,000 APs with a target near 20,000) and ExtremeSwitching to deliver higher capacity and simpler management. The Extreme Networks solution delivered robust, 802.11ac Wi‑Fi that supports roughly 80,000 concurrent devices (about 80% of campus devices), reduced operational complexity for IT, and enabled reliable digital instruction and large-scale testing across the district.
