Belgian Hospital Upgrades Technology in Support of Lifesaving Medical Apps

Antwerp University Hospital, a large Belgian teaching hospital serving roughly 2,700 staff and about 25,000 patients annually, needed to replace an end-of-life campus network while maintaining strict requirements for security, easy management, failover and 24/7 availability. After evaluating options, the hospital selected Extreme Networks to deliver a high-performance, reliable replacement that could support clinical imaging, EMR and other critical applications without interruption.

Extreme Networks deployed more than 230 switches — including redundant BlackDiamond core switches and Summit edge switches — and implemented ExtremeXOS and EAPS for identity-aware security, VLAN segmentation and sub-50 millisecond failover. The result: improved resiliency and predictable bandwidth for DICOM/PACS and other bandwidth‑heavy apps, stronger patient-data security and easier, consistent management across the network; the upgrade now reliably supports the hospital’s ~2,700 users and patient workflows with no reported slowdowns.
