A Extreme Networks Case Study
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, a government-owned New Zealand institute with roughly 7,000 students (about 4,000 on the Windermere campus) and some 1,500 endpoints, was plagued by frequent network outages and student complaints about slow or inconsistent connectivity. IT Manager Rabindra Das engaged Extreme Networks and selected Extreme Networks Summit series switches (X670 and X650 cores with X460 PoE distribution/edge) to address the reliability and performance issues.
Extreme Networks’ Summit switches were deployed across campuses with a 10Gb fibre backbone and redundant stacked distribution, delivering immediate improvements: weekly outages were eliminated, downtime dropped to zero over the referenced year, and student bandwidth complaints ceased. Implemented with partner BTG, the Extreme Networks solution provided measurable gains in speed and multimedia capacity, 1Gb to desktops, planned 20% headroom and an expected six-year service life for the upgraded network.
