York County Protects Citizens from Identity Theft with ID Shield Advanced Redaction

York County, Pennsylvania worked with Extract Systems to address a serious identity theft risk affecting publicly available court records. After criminals used online DUI records to obtain Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and other personal data, the county sought a way to protect sensitive information in both historical files and new documents. Using Laserfiche for document management, York County needed an automated redaction solution that could handle unstructured court documents.

Extract Systems implemented ID Shield Advanced Redaction, integrated with Laserfiche, to process both York County’s backfile of historical documents and its day-forward workflow. The solution helped the county redact Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers from public court records, making York County the first Pennsylvania court to do so voluntarily.
