Three Montgomery County offices protect citizens from identity theft with Extract Systems’ automated redaction software (ID ShieldTM)

Montgomery County turned to Extract Systems to help three county offices—Clerk of Court, Probate Court, and County Recorder—address the growing risk of identity theft and comply with Ohio House Bill 46. The county needed a way to redact sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, bank account numbers, and credit card numbers from public records without consuming scarce staff time and resources.

Extract Systems implemented its ID Shield automated redaction software to process both historical and new documents, integrating with systems like Tybera eFlex, OnBase, PROWARE, CourtView, and Resolution (COTT). The solution redacted over 21.5 million historical documents and about 2.2 million new documents each year, and after six months of verification, Montgomery County moved to a fully automated “lights out” workflow.
