Fairfax Circuit Court leverages Extract Systems’ automated redaction software (ID Shield)

Fairfax County Government, through Fairfax Circuit Court, needed a way to balance public access to records with the protection of personal data, especially Social Security Numbers, across tens of millions of historical and day-forward documents. The county also needed a redaction solution that could integrate with its internal systems and third-party applications while meeting a 99.5% accuracy target and a tight six-month deadline. Extract Systems’ ID Shield automated redaction software was selected to help address this challenge.

Extract Systems implemented a hybrid redaction approach using ID Shield, combining automated redaction for high-confidence matches with manual review for medium- and low-confidence items. The solution was integrated into Fairfax County’s workflows and API, enabling immediate availability of automatically redacted documents and browser-based review of queued files. Extract Systems completed the 44.5 million-page backfile project in five months, a month ahead of schedule, and achieved 99.5% accuracy.
