DeKalb County Clerk/Recorder Leverages Technology to Decrease Costs and Improve Customer Service

DeKalb County Clerk/Recorder wanted to modernize the county’s land records office, improve customer service, and cut costs by moving records access online. To do that, the office needed to replace its legacy records management system and comply with Illinois requirements to redact Social Security Numbers from millions of historical documents. Vendor Extract Systems was brought in to help with its ID Shield advanced redaction technology.

Extract Systems worked with IT-Stability to process and permanently redact SSNs from 2.9 million pages of historical county records in a secure facility, enabling DeKalb County to launch online public access to land records. The project helped the county save taxpayers more than $250,000 and achieve an estimated ROI of about one year, while improving efficiency, reducing walk-in traffic, and protecting residents from identity theft.
