Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Faces PCI Compliance Deadline

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation needed to meet a PCI DSS compliance deadline and had already processed much of its document inventory with internal staff and a mid-tier redaction tool. However, the software could not reliably detect and redact credit card data and CVV codes in complex, unstructured documents such as checks, payroll records, and payment history reports, leaving about 500,000 documents to be outsourced. The Bureau selected Extract Systems and its ID Shield redaction service to handle the remaining workload.

Extract Systems processed the Bureau’s unstructured documents at its secure Madison, Wisconsin facility using ID Shield, which automatically flagged credit card numbers and CVV codes while a verification team checked all redactions for accuracy. The project was completed in eight weeks, achieved a 98% accuracy rate, and handled difficult cases like skewed, low-quality, upside-down, and handwritten documents using image enhancement and intelligent character recognition. As a result, the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation protected sensitive data, met PCI-DSS requirements on time, and avoided fines.
