Allegheny County Courts Uses ID Shield to Protect Citizens from Identity Theft

Allegheny County, home to the second-largest population in Pennsylvania, needed a redaction solution to protect sensitive information in public court documents while minimizing staff time spent on quality assurance. The county wanted software that was easy to use and capable of handling both day-forward and historical records, and it selected Extract Systems’ ID Shield to support its three court divisions.

Extract Systems implemented ID Shield to automatically redact high-confidence documents while routing low-confidence files to staff review, helping reduce cost, improve efficiency, and eliminate human error. The solution is processing about 4 million day-forward pages annually and the county is on track to complete about 10 million back-file pages per year over three years; Allegheny County has already processed 4.3 million back-file pages and uses the system to redact Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, credit card numbers, and other sensitive data.
