Union Privilege (Union Plus) provides discounted products and services to more than 13 million union members, including an AT&T wireless discount. Faced with low awareness of many benefits and a goal to increase participation in the AT&T program, the organization needed a scalable referral channel—one that could track referrals, test incentives and placements, and turn member enthusiasm into measurable growth.
Union Privilege partnered with Extole to launch a referral program that enabled sharing via email and Facebook, tracked offline signups with discount codes, and used monthly and flash prize incentives plus regular email and social promotion. In about four months the program drove a 93% increase in monthly online subscribers (nearly four times its target), generated ~7,000 referrals from 3,270 advocates, saw email and Facebook account for over 90% of shares, and produced traffic spikes—flash contests delivered increases up to 2,500%.
