Textile Manufacturer Becomes “Part of the Fabric” of Their Supply and Demand Chains

Mount Vernon Mills (MVM) is a diversified U.S. textile manufacturer with about 3,600 employees, seven divisions and 14 production facilities. Facing a costly, labor-intensive legacy EDI system and a small IT staff, MVM needed to eliminate error-prone “swivel chair” data entry, integrate disparate supplier and customer formats (CSV, XLS, flat files and X12 EDI), and gain end-to-end visibility to speed order-to-cash cycles and strengthen partner relationships.

MVM implemented the EXTOL Business Integrator (EBI) to automate EDI and non‑EDI transactions, enabling rapid onboarding of trading partners and seamless integration with their home-grown ERP/WMS. Today one coordinator manages 51 X12 partners and hundreds of non‑EDI exchanges, processing ~8,700 EDI and ~215 non‑EDI messages monthly; the automation saved hours of manual work (e.g., ~8 hours/month on shipping and ~4 hours/week for consignment customers), reduced errors, improved forecasting and inventory visibility, and made MVM easier to do business with—opening new logistics opportunities and improving profitability.
