Case Study: National Police Agency achieves 7TB processed in under 2 hours with Exterro FTK Lab

A Exterro Case Study

Preview of the National Police Agency Case Study

National Police Agency Becomes a Processing Powerhouse with FTK® Lab

The National Police Agency was struggling with investigations that produced terabytes of data, overwhelming its existing forensic infrastructure and slowing casework. To accelerate analysis and improve reliability, the agency deployed Exterro’s FTK Lab to provide distributed processing and a centralized case database for collaborative forensic workflows.

By configuring one Distributed Processing Manager and 11 Distributed Processing Engines on enterprise-grade servers (Xeon Gold CPUs, 128 GB RAM, SSDs), the agency processed a 7 TB Mac image in 1 hour 40 minutes and completed indexing in under 12 hours, handling over 14 million objects. The FTK Lab deployment added redundancy and role-based access while enabling Mac artifact parsing, AI-driven video and image recognition, cloud scalability, and OCR—delivering faster, more reliable evidence to investigators and prosecutors.
