A Exterro Case Study
Juniper Networks, a Sunnyvale-based networking equipment company with roughly 9,500 employees, faced a costly and defensibility-challenged e-discovery posture: reliance on vendors and custodial interviews, poor data governance (including over 14,000 inventoried hard drives), and mounting legacy data that exposed the company to risk and high spend while still needing to preserve an innovative, open culture.
Juniper moved e-discovery and forensics in‑house and to the cloud, building a virtualized forensics lab and automating preservation and case intake (using Exterro tools) to span the EDRM. The program centralized operations under information security, improved information governance, enabled rapid preservation, processed millions of emails in seconds, defensibly reduced data from 22 petabytes to 14 terabytes, and delivered about $7M in annual savings.
