A Exterity Case Study
Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, Europe’s largest women’s hospital, wanted to improve the patient and visitor experience in line with NHS guidance. The Trust needed a better way to deliver bedside entertainment and waiting-room information, replacing ad hoc TV setups and the limitations of traditional analogue distribution. Working with Exterity and Parity Medical, it chose an enterprise IPTV approach, supported by Philips CareServant for patient information and digital signage.
Exterity implemented an IPTV solution using TVgateway and encoder technology to distribute live TV, radio, and signage over the hospital LAN, with touch-screen bedside controls and screens in waiting rooms. The pilot covered 17 beds and 14 waiting rooms, and early results were strong: 75% of surveyed patients rated the TV, video and radio choice as excellent, and 75% found the system easy to use. Staff reported higher patient satisfaction and less stress for nurses, with patients even willing to pay £2 per day for the service, suggesting a seven-year payback.
