Smukfest is an annual music festival in Denmark’s Skanderborg forest that draws about 55,000 people and relies on 40 photographers to capture more than 6,000 moments each year. Over four decades the festival built a 200,000+ photo archive but struggled with images scattered across devices, duplicated files and inconsistent naming, making tagging, finding, sharing and preserving photos slow and unreliable.

Smukfest deployed Extensis Portfolio to centralize its photo library, enforce metadata on upload and use tagging, ranking, cataloging and a web portal for easy retrieval and distribution, then migrated the system to Amazon Cloud for cost savings and scalability. The solution sped up image distribution to media and live main-stage screens, improved archive organization and preservation, increased audience engagement and exposure, and reduced storage costs.
