Gardens Alive! Maximizes Image Use Across 15 Brands

Gardens Alive! is a privately owned catalog and online retailer of home gardening products and the parent to 15 sub-brands. Rapid growth through acquisition left the company with thousands of images and a legacy DAM that was difficult to use, causing employees to bypass the system, overburden the photo team, and slow go-to-market workflows. Their goals were to increase cross-brand image use, reduce production costs and photographer requests, and broaden licensed image use.

They replaced the legacy system with Extensis Portfolio to centralize assets, create brand-specific catalogs with permissions, add rich metadata, and streamline designer workflows with large thumbnails and drag-and-drop to InDesign. Adoption across creative, merchandising, customer service, manufacturing and copywriting led to dramatic improvements: 95% fewer file requests, a 90% increase in image usage, and an 80% reduction in search time.
