Bringing History Into Focus With Digital Asset Management

The Priaulx Library, Guernsey’s Local Studies Library founded in 1889, cares for over 20,000 items including maps, records, rare books and 220 years of local newspapers. As the library digitised its collections the number and variety of files grew rapidly, creating an urgent need to catalogue, index and make materials searchable so staff and visitors could quickly discover and preserve Guernsey’s history.

Working with volunteers and guided by peers such as the British Library, the Priaulx Library implemented Extensis Portfolio with NetPublish to manage and securely serve tens of thousands of digital assets. The result: searchable, intranet-accessible collections with touchscreen access that turned multi‑day searches into instant discoveries, greatly improving accessibility, security and efficiency.
