A More Sustainable Imagery Solution

The Québec Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, and Parks manages large volumes of aerial and satellite imagery—over 10,000 images a year and more than 1.5 TB of data—used for ecological analysis across more than 20 provincial offices, including remote low-bandwidth locations. Decentralized purchasing and storage (multiple offices buying the same CDs) made image management, updating, and distribution costly and inefficient, while staff needed reliable access through ArcMap, GeoMedia and web applications.

The Ministry implemented GeoExpress to mosaic and compress TIFFs to MrSID and Express Server to deliver imagery centrally and efficiently to any device or connection. This eliminated redundant purchases, cut storage by 60%, preserved visually lossless image quality, reduced bandwidth needs, and enabled fast, centralized updates and WMS-enabled access in ArcMap and web applications—streamlining workflows and improving accessibility across the organization.
