Case Study: Jellyfish Pictures boosts VFX flexibility and performance with Exponential-e DaaS

A Exponential-e Case Study

VFX studio Jellyfish Pictures unchains artists from their desks thanks to DaaS

Jellyfish Pictures, the London VFX and animation studio behind productions such as Inside the Human Body and Planet Dinosaur, needed to expand beyond its Noho base without losing its place in the city’s creative hub or compromising on performance, security, or client service. Working with Exponential-e, it looked for a way to support demanding graphics work and flexible staffing for project-based production.

Exponential-e implemented a Desktop-as-a-Service for GPU (DaaS-GPU) platform powered by NVIDIA GRID and VMware Horizon, backed by a low-latency private network between Jellyfish Pictures’ studios. The result was virtual desktops that performed like physical workstations, ran 3 to 4 times faster on like-for-like tasks, achieved 25 to 30 frames per second, and let artists work securely from any device or location. Exponential-e also helped Jellyfish Pictures shift from CAPEX to OPEX, reduce upfront expansion costs, and collaborate more easily across studios and remote teams.
