Enabling centralisation and closing the loop at Birkbeck, University of London

Birkbeck, University of London worked with Explorance to replace a devolved module evaluation process with a centralised approach. Before Blue course evaluation software was introduced, the university’s 19 departments used different systems and different sets of questions, which created inconsistencies in practice, reporting, and the ability to capture what students were saying.

Explorance implemented Blue for course evaluation and later Bluepulse for formative feedback, giving Birkbeck a consistent way to gather and act on student input. The university reported that reports were sent to students within two weeks of the survey closing, and early NSS results showed agreement on two statements rising by 2% each. Birkbeck also said the processes were straightforward, with no technical issues, and planned to use the feedback more widely across annual reviews and other reporting.
