Durham University Drives Innovative Student-Centric Approach with Explorance Blue

Durham University, in Durham, England, introduced a new policy in 2017 to place module evaluation questionnaires at the center of student satisfaction, engagement, and staff progression. The university used Explorance Blue for four cycles of MEQs across undergraduate and postgraduate modules, but resource restrictions and other limits made the process inefficient and prevented the platform from being fully used.

Durham University re-launched the MEQ service in May 2023 with Explorance Blue, along with Explorance’s Data Integrity Gateway, the Blue Dashboard, and a hosted test server, creating automatic sync between Durham data and the system. The university says the new setup gives it a stronger foundation, greater flexibility to expand survey activity beyond MEQs, and a wider cultural approach to listening to the student voice. With 20,000 students across four faculties, Durham is set to evaluate 3,671 modules across six evaluation cycles, with the first round of MEQs beginning in November 2023.
