A Expleo Case Study
A global rail vehicle manufacturer faced the challenge of making its new regional train model compatible with its existing fleet, as the different communication protocols prevented the old and new trains from being coupled. The manufacturer engaged Expleo to create a solution that would avoid costly retrofitting or major adjustments to the train control units, a project for which Expleo assumed full commercial and technical risk on a fixed-price basis.
Expleo developed an innovative software solution, the Mixed Mode Operation System (MXT), which functions as a black-box translator for bus communications between the different train generations. Expleo managed the entire software development v-cycle, including testing, documentation, and securing certification from Germany's TÜV authorities. This solution provided the client with a unique market advantage, allowing them to offer new vehicles to operators with existing fleets and giving those end clients greater flexibility in configuring their train setups.
