Klas Karlgren uncovers 576 nursing placement insights with ExpiWell

The customer, Klas Karlgren, a principal researcher in medical education, faced the challenge of accurately understanding nursing students' experiences during clinical placements. Traditional retrospective interviews were subject to recall bias, making it difficult to capture real-time data on students' feelings of competence and challenge. To gain more accurate insights, Karlgren used the ExpiWell platform to implement Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA).

Using ExpiWell's EMA service, Karlgren's team collected 576 real-time responses from students over five weeks. This solution revealed significant findings that retrospective interviews had missed: final-year students experienced high levels of boredom, and many challenging activities reported in the moment were not mentioned later. The results provided educators with valuable, granular data to better adjust clinical learning environments and optimize educational experiences for future healthcare professionals.
