Science Lab Kits Manufacturer Masters Challenge of Complex Order Configuration

Science Interactive makes LabPaqs—customized science lab kits that let students complete hands-on experiments off campus—and grew rapidly as online education expanded. Because each LabPaq is configured to an instructor’s syllabus, the company was relying on Excel, QuickBooks and a basic CRM to build complex, one-off orders, which was slow, error-prone and left time-to-quote as long as two days.

To fix this, Science Interactive deployed Microsoft Dynamics NAV for ERP, Dynamics CRM for customer management, and the Experlogix Product Configurator (integrated via Webfortis and Scribe), and updated its e-commerce front end. Experlogix’s rules engine (over 2,500 rules to handle material and quantity variation) automated BOMs and quoting, cutting time-to-quote from two days to five minutes, improving quote accuracy, providing single-source traceability, and giving the company a scalable platform for continued growth.
