Libbey Inc. Uses Digital Transformation to Lift its 200-Year-Old Company Into the Cloud

Libbey Inc., a 200-year-old, $800M-a-year tableware manufacturer, faced mounting pressure from born-in-the-cloud competitors and an aging IT landscape—five 20-year-old ERP systems that couldn’t support growing e-commerce, global master data, financials, supply chain, sales and marketing needs. Leadership decided a full digital transformation was required to lift the business into the cloud and selected Microsoft for its three-cloud platform and global services.

Working with Microsoft Services, Libbey launched a multiphased migration using Office 365, Dynamics 365 and Azure: phase one deployed an e-commerce solution (Dynamics 365 sales-order-to-cash) in early 2019, with global ERP/CRM and Azure-based operations, AI and ML planned next. A joint Center of Excellence now guides strategy, training and rollout—delivering improved security, business intelligence, a consistent user experience and the global agility to compete and grow with minimal disruption.
